ID50 marks the 50th anniversary of the Department of Interior Architecture at Universiti Teknologi
MARA (UiTM), celebrating its pioneering role in shaping Malaysia’s interior design education.

Established in 1975—when UiTM was still known as the MARA Institute of Technology (ITM)—this program was the first in the country to introduce formal interior design education, setting a foundation that continues to influence the industry today.

For five decades, UiTM Interior Design alumni have left an indelible mark on Malaysia’s design landscape. They are not only designers but also leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs—driving change as presidents of professional bodies, founders of leading design firms, and contributors to some of the nation’s most iconic projects. Many played a crucial role in establishing organizations
like MIID (formerly MSID and IPDM), ensuring the professional recognition and development of interior design in Malaysia.
